A clear sky didn't add to the drama of a crane fly in photos, unfortunately. Very few flew in close to the viewing area. About a thousand landed on the far south side of the refuge.
Using a high ISO in my camera forced me to use extra filtering in Photoshop to detail the birds and add some of that painterly look.
