Preserving native oaks is a hard fought battle in California. Thankfully, Cosumnes River Preserve protects a huge riparian forest, including a number of oak species.
I arrived at the Preserve before sunrise, talked to a couple of bird watching nuts for a short minute and briskly hiked to a Photographer's Ephemeris destination that was perfect. I set up my tripod just before the sun rose and captured a few full moon setting shots behind me.
I was surrounded by majestic oaks, including one with a years-old fallen branch that was slowly disintegrating on its northeast side.
