I was hoping to find the lone female osprey at the end of the 3-mile loop trail at the Cosumnes Preserve this morning, but didn't get there until a little after 6:30, which was too late according to the birder who had seen her last Saturday. So, she's either headed out for the day or for good. The best time would have been a month ago.
This is only the second time I've visited this far end of the trail, which is right on the Cosumnes River. My knee was much better today, so I'll plan on returning soon.

Hi Dave,

That's me in the kayak there. The osprey roosted at the end of the trail for most of the summer and was still there as of last week-end. However, this spot is now popular with duck hunters, and she leaves at the first gunshot, which is always before the light is good. I got a lot of shots of her this summer, posted on 500px and flicker, if you're interested
