This was the last stop on our vacation before heading back to Stockton on Saturday. Held at the Rios Caledonia Adobe, just south of the San Miguel Mission, the old, original Highway 101 runs between it and the railroad tracks.
The highlight of the event was meeting Jim Weir, formerly of San Luis Obispo, who knew my grandfather and dad. Jim lived just a few doors down from my grandparents at the end of Chandler Street on Lawrence Drive. His dad and my grandfather were good friends. He was about 8 years younger than my dad, but commented that the Barlow girls who lived across the street from Dad's used to buddy around with him. Jim moved from SLO in 1940. Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. FREE to the public!
"Join the fun for a FREE event at the Rios-Caledonia Adobe in San Miguel, Saturday, June 2, from 11 AM to 3 PM when the local antique car clubs exhibit their unique old Model A and Model T automobiles on the original old highway that runs in front of the Adobe. You can vote for your favorite and participate in the 50-50 drawing.
"Added interests this year will be the Santa Lucia Rockhounds showing their wares in the Information Center and Central Coast Lavender displaying and illustrating their fragrant lavender products near the Gift Shop. Food will be for sale by "The Three Amigos"; guitar music by Ron Domingos and Friend; wine tasting in the old bar of the Adobe by Tackitt Winery of San Miguel.
