Gilbert was invited to share his experience as a POW in Germany during the WWII by the San Joaquin Historical Society. A modest group of veterans, relatives, friends and interested folk listened as he detailed his harrowing adventure of suffering, deprivation and loneliness while in a camp that housed 30,000 Allied troops during the war.

This courageous generation will soon fade from our world. Let's not forget their love of country and sacrifice of self to secure the blessings of liberty for us.

My neighbor, Brenda Woehl-Patton, is proud of her dad, who is now deceased. She and her family are lost without him. Mr. Woehl was a respected member of the community.
