Not expecting a glorious show this year, I wasn't disappointed at the dismal display on the Rancho Seco Howard Ranch Trail. Sparse winter rains weren't enough to awake the sleeping seeds that need a good dousing to resurrect on time. We didn't even venture to the vernal pool area, since it is about 2 miles or more out on the trail and we weren't seeing any signs of expectation.

But the weather was a perfectly cool day, few clouds, a little soothing breeze and the perfect quietude relished by us city dwellers.
