Visiting Cosumnes River Preserve early on a summer morning with the expectation of seeing lots of dragonflies proved fruitless. Better to go after 10:00 when they wake up and start feeding.

I only saw two other people on the River Trail, which is probably normal for a Friday in July.

I unwittingly spooked a blue heron and great egret at the big oak tree rest spot, unfortunately. There are usually big birds at this spot and I didn't have my stalking hat on when I entered the area.
